Lunch Time

“You seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.”  This moment reveals Jesus’ concern for our needs and his compassion in meeting them, showing that he cares about both our physical and spiritual well-being

It’s hard to imagine trying to learn on an empty stomach, which is why our first ongoing project in the community is to provide school lunches. Recently when talking to one family in the community, we learned the parents only had weak coffee to offer their children for breakfast before they went to school.  These parents expressed their gratitude for the food their children now receive.  We subsidize these lunches, and each week the teachers collect a small fee from the parents. The funds not only help cover food costs but also give the teachers a source of income for necessary supplies throughout the year.

José often recalls the “lion in his stomach” as a child—the painful growling from hunger. Although he had to endure that hardship, he is now committed to making sure other children don’t suffer the same way. Since the school began offering lunches, teachers have noticed a significant increase in attendance.  With the addition of vitamins provided at the medical clinic, we have seen an improvement in the children’s cognitive abilities.

Every day, three mothers from the community volunteer to cook meals for the students. Marleny, with her leadership, has organized these mothers into a reliable team, ensuring that every child receives the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and feel supported.
