José and Maylin

This story is of my brother José.  José and I knew each other about 5 years before he and I ventured into the Danli trash dump community together.  Going into the trash dump together is really a story of God preparing both of us in HIs way.  In the community José quickly became well liked and respected among the people.  He is a very gregarious soul and loves to laugh.  Without him this ministry would be nowhere close to where it is today.  I lean on his understanding of his culture and defer to his ideas often.  He and his wife Maylin and son Joseph have welcomed me into their home and take wonderful care of me.   Maylin is a wonderfully organized and efficient person, she is the one who makes the medical clinic in the community work so well.  Maylin also is a wonderful cook and makes the best lemon grass tea in the whole world, if you are fortunate to come to Honduras you will discover that I am not exaggerating.  When we are together it certainly feels like I am home.  They live in a little village called El Naranjal, which is about a 1 1/2-hour drive to Danli.  Here is a little bit of José’s story.

Hello, this is my story. My name is Jose Antonio Nuñez, the son of Rosa Zulema Nuñez, a single mother who worked doing laundry and purchasing paper raffle tickets. This is like the lottery to buy us food, which was not enough. My mother told me that one day I prayed and prayed from hunger and at that moment some hunters came to the village and said why is that child crying my mother told them he is hungry and has not drunk milk because we have no money.  One of the hunters felt regret and took his car and he went to another nearby town to bring milk for me. I grew up in a mud home of extreme poverty. I grew up barefoot until I was thirteen.  I only attended school until 6th grade, after that it was necessary to work to buy food. I never drank a beer or smoked a cigarette. I had dreams and decided to look for someone who could help me. God opened doors for me I opened my heart to Him and He gave me gifts like becoming a carpenter working as an artist with wood and He gave me a gift of speaking a little English.  Because of my work as a carpenter I was on television in interviews and I was in the newspaper the God of the heavens changed my life.  I dreamed one day I would have a cabin, a wife, a son, God gave them to me and he wants to give a lot of blessings to those who believe in him. Later, he sent me to a place with an angel called Ron, that place is called the garbage dump and when I saw that life I remembered all my childhood hunger.  People with a lack of opportunities and if God sent me with an angel to that place it is because it is the land that will flow with milk and honey because God will send more angels to give a better life to those children and youngsters from the dump. I know there are more angels behind Ron blessing a lot but I pray much more that angels flood that place to change lives bring food bring love and peace from our heavenly Father. Well that is part of my story and parts of my dreams that today I have for my people in the trash dump to give them hope in God we trust amen.
