You will never get there if you do not start

I didn’t realize the wisdom in those words at first, but there are moments in life that God uses to steer us in His direction. This photo captured one of those moments: a father and his son taking a break from recycling work in the Danlí trash dump. I deeply respect this man, doing all he can to care for his family. In Honduras, without social safety nets, it’s either work or go without. I don’t know his specific story, but I imagine it resembles the journey of so many others working in the dump. What stood out to me is that he’s stayed with his family, a choice many find hard to make.
It made me reflect: if I were in his place, what would I want from someone coming to help? Not just sympathy or a handout, but true opportunities and a connection to something bigger—to a God who cares, the same God who is present in both comfort and hardship. To know that Jesus understands, and that He’s there for all who call on Him.
I can’t fully imagine what it’s like to live in a trash dump day after day, but I am convinced that Jesus came for people like this father and his son. We have work to do, and we follow a Leader who neither fears nor avoids trash dumps.
