A door of opportunity

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have provided 23 students from the community a scholarship for next school year (school starts in 1 February in Honduras). One of these students, pictured here, is Ariela Milagro Andrade Alonso. She is 14 years old, in the 9th grade and desires a career in the Information Technology (IT) field. The Facebook link below will take you to pictures and information for all the students receiving a scholarship. One of the teachers in the community school, Amada, has agreed to meet with the students and their teachers throughout the year to monitor their progress and help them if problems arise. As noted in her story that we sent out last November, Amada’s journey to achieve her educational goals were very difficult, so she understands the challenges in front of these parents and children as they continue their education. While in Honduras in December we met with the teachers at the community school to get their ideas how best to implement the scholarships, as they best understand the culture and educational system. Also while we were there we took the teachers to a school supply store so they could purchase necessary school supplies with donations you have provided. These ladies are some of my heroes, their dedication to the students and this community is outstanding. Also with donations the teachers and Marleny purchased school supplies for the students enrolled in the K-5 thru 6th grade community school. The parents can now purchase these school supplies for a very low cost.

As noted in an earlier email, it is rare for a child to go to school beyond the 6th grade, especially from the community. Our desire is further education for these students will open doors of opportunity for them.As a note, we have made it clear we are helping the parents with their responsibility of raising their children. We believe it important to honor the responsibility God grants parents to raise their children, rather than bypassing parents and helping the children directly. We are aware that parental involvement in a child’s education is very important. Thank you all for your support for these parents and children, whether prayer, encouraging words or financial, it is all much appreciated.
