The community spoke
I came to Honduras fully expecting to begin the process of building a new kitchen at the school here in the trash dump. From my last trip here I sensed the enthusiasm of the people for this project. Before proceeding with the construction planning, we decided to have two community meetings to confirm this plan. At the community meetings over 40 people unanimously stated they wanted a new classroom for their school before building the kitchen. The community spoke freely of the need for an additional classroom and were united behind this project. The current school lacks a classroom for 2 grades (there are two grades per classroom) and all the people stated it was most important the children are not subject to rain, the sun, bugs, etc. because they have to meet outside. When there is heavy rain they need to cancel classes for those two grades. We have begun the process of talking with individuals and organizations here in Honduras to solicit their help with this construction. We will hire people in the community to build the classroom, which will require José and myself to provide significant oversight of the work. Please pray that we can finish this work before the next school year begins in February.
The second community meeting was held under the stars in the trash dump. It was a special time together as the people spoke, and it ended with the people in the Danli trash dump praying for the people in the Tegucigalpa trash dump. There are many problems confronting the ministry in the Tegucigalpa trash dump, and it was wonderful to hear the people in Danli pray for them.
