Stories from the trash dump : Adriel

The person with the stocking hat is Adriel.  At 9 years old his parents got divorced and found other lovers.  Both of his parents disowned him at that point and left him to live in the streets of Nicaragua.  For 2 years he lived in the streets of Nicaragua, eating what bits of pieces of food he could scrap together and any kindness of strangers.  He said he ate about once every three days, and was given plenty of beer and drugs from others, though he quickly discovered he did not want them.  At 11 years old he came to Honduras hoping for a better life.  He has once ventured back to Nicaragua to see his parents, his mom refused him at her house, and his dad drove him to some place in Nicaragua and forced him out of the car and drove off.  He said he often wonders why his mom didn’t get an abortion.

He is married now with his wife Mebi, and they had a son last week, Immanuel.  There were living in a hut, but had to be out by the end of this month.  Some people living there at the trash dump offered to let this couple build a house next to their house on their property, but they had no money or material for a house other than what was available in the trash dump.  They asked us if we could help.  Long story short, we agreed to supply the materials if Adriel and others would help us build the house.  It took us a day and a half, and now the couple has a house.  Mebi shared with us that she gave her life to Jesus last week, and we shared the gospel with Adriel this week.  I appreciated that he said he was not a follower of Jesus, he was very honest in his relationship with the Father.  It was a wonderful experience sharing the gospel together with my Honduran brothers and sisters, the Holy Spirit was moving us the same way even while we speak different languages.  I believe one day he will know the resurrected Jesus and find peace in this life.  Adriel has many challenges in his life, one is he works on and off working landscape at a coffee plantation for $4/day.  We appreciate your prayers for him and his family.
